I blow glass into moulds to create tactile surfaces. The moulds are made from a variety of materials such as clay, fabrics and metal and can only be used once.
The activity of making the moulds is an equally important part of the creative process as they cause the textures to form on the vessels. I also use sodium silicate to create sand shell moulds.
The moulds are inspired by my drawings; I draw first and then translate the marks, energy and gesturesvinto three dimensional moulds.
I use subtle, semi-transparent colours in my work. Much of my work has a kaolin/water patina to create crazing and an ageing effect.
